Part of Issue 30 Homonyms, this editorial shoot took on the dual meaning of Vain/Vein, highlighting the overlap between the two meanings to create a cohesive concept. Drawing inspiration from 1950s housekeeping manuals, I created a satirical, gory, step-by-step beauty guide.
In the 1950s, societal pressure heavily influenced beauty and behavioral standards. Women were confined to domestic roles, with appearance and household maintenance seen as their primary value, fostering the belief that a woman's worth lay in her physical appearance and perpetuating idealized beauty standards.
Vain/Vein, part of Issue 29 "Homonyms", critiques these standards. Inspired by 1950s housekeeping manuals, it subverts traditional beauty norms, revealing the grotesque lengths women were expected to go to maintain their appearance. By challenging viewers to confront this misogyny, it calls for a reevaluation of societal pressures on women.
